The Coerver® UK HQ Coaching team headed down to Colchester, Essex last weekend to deliver the latest Play Like The Stars Roadshow at Tip Tree Jobserve FC to over 100 young players.

The Roadshow marked the launch event for the state-of-the-art facilities that have been opened at Warriors Rest in partnership between Tiptree Jobserve FC and Colchester United FC who will share the indoor artificial training dome for both grassroots and academy training sessions.

The players, both boys and girls, ranging from U8-U15 years old which included players from guest Club Stanway Villa FC started the roadshow in the classroom where they were taken through a presentation by Coerver® UK Director Scott Wright based on the day’s theme which was “Germany – World Cup Star Models”.

The presentation featured detailed video analysis on how Germany won the World Cup with two particular areas being focused on in the build-up to the practical session which was themed “Press & Protect”.

Players also had the opportunity to take part in a Skills Challenge and a World Cup tournament to round off the day’s activities in the dome. Following the practical session, players, coaches and parents headed back into the classroom for a review of the session and finally the awards for the Skills Challenge and Star Player winners were presented.

Coerver® UK Director Scott Wright said “The idea behind our Play Like The Stars Roadshow is that it is a learning experience for both the players and coaches both on and off the pitch. We base the themes on the World’s greatest players and teams and look to break down the elements of the game that they are good at”.

“For this particular Roadshow at Tip Tree Jobserve FC in Colchester, we focused on how Germany won the World Cup and used video analysis to help the players visualize what we would be doing before heading out for the practical session”.

“The facilities here at Warriors Rest are second to none and I can’t imagine that there is another grassroots club in the country that has access to such magnificent facilities. This in addition to the excellent organisation by the club and the tremendous effort that the players put in all added to a fantastic day for all”.

“I look forward to returning to the club next month to deliver a coach and parent education clinic which is also part of the Roadshow package and we hope to build a relationship here where we can really have a big impact on both player and coach development in the local area”.

Lee Verney, who organised the Roadshow on behalf of the club said “I would just once again like to thank Coerver UK for an excellent event on Saturday, I think it was fantastic and the feedback we have had since has been both positive and very encouraging”.

“Coerver UK once again excelled themselves at hosting an excellent, professional event attended by 100 players. All the players enjoyed themselves and I can vouch for the fact they learned something as we had a practice match with our under 13’s on Sunday and the pressing & protecting skills from both teams was vastly improved!”.

Following on from the first two Coerver® Coaching Play Like The Stars 1 v 1 Coach Education courses at Birmingham City FC and Sheffield Wednesday FC, two further courses have been completed at Millwall FC and Stoke City FC (see below images).

This rounds off a fantastic series of coach education courses, with over 160 coaches from all levels of the game attending four venues across the country during November 2014.

Attending coaches have been tutored by Coerver® UK director Scott Wright who delivered the full day courses and said “We always enjoy getting up and down the country to deliver our coach education courses and this series of 1 v 1 specific courses has been a huge success for us. We have received tremendous feedback from attendees who have come from grassroots to professional levels of the game and also a wide range of age groups that they work with”.

“We have ensured that the course content is relevant to the real world environment that our attendees are operating in. One thing is for sure, and that is the topics of 1 v 1 and ball mastery skills teaching are essential at every level and age group and with there being little to no focus on either of these topics in any of the national or UEFA licensed courses, we are definitely providing knowledge in vital areas of the game where there is a gap in the coach education system”.

“We will be looking to provide more coach education courses in 2015 through our new pathway and look forward to traveling up and down the country again and to visit some places we have not been to before to deliver our programme”.

“I would like to thank all attendees of the course as well as the players and coaching staff of Birmingham City FC, Sheffield Wednesday FC, Millwall FC & Stoke City FC for helping us to deliver such a great course”.

Play Like The Stars 1 v 1 Course Feedback:

“I have attended half a dozen Coerver courses over the last 4-5 years and always find them thought provoking and informative. Scott delivers both practically and theoretically in such detail that I always leave the courses wanting more.

“I would recommend the Play Like The Stars 1 v 1 course along with any other Coerver course to any coach wishing to develop and improve their understanding of player development and coaching”.

Mike Dodds
Lead Youth Development Coach
Birmingham City FC

“Hi Guys, just wanted to drop a mail to pass on our thanks and report back on once again a quality Course by Scott Wright at Coerver Coaching UK. James, Andy and my-self travelled to Sheffield from North Lincolnshire to attend another great Coerver Course, following on from our Youth Diploma at Stoke City”.

“We have been using Coerver in our Grassroots U9 team since U7′s with huge success in both Mini Soccer & Futsal. We feel the squad have become very technical players under the Coerver methods with a massive increase in confidence levels being noted during their Golden Years of learning”.

“I think a massive positive is the clear and concise way in which Scott explains the ideology. His passion shines through in his delivery, keeping us all hanging onto his every word of wisdom. Something Scott said and we stand by: “If you believe it, teach it”. We believe in Coerver and we teach it, roll on Youth Diploma 2!”.

Mark Davis
Immingham Pilgrims AFC

“The Coerver Play Like The Stars course was very enjoyable & informative and was delivered in a passionate & enthusiastic manner. I have been a fan of the Coerver method for several years now so while I was aware of the drills, the course gave lots of information to bear in mind when teaching the 1 v 1 sessions”.

“I found the session on mind set very interesting & the decision to include a session with the academy U10′s was a good one as it was very informative to see a session progressed from ball mastery to a game situation using 1v1 techniques”.

“I am looking forward to attending the youth diploma next year, overall the course was excellent as a 1 day coach education workshop & I would recommend the coerver drills & methods to any coach or young player, many thanks for an enjoyable day”.
